Leeds Rhinos have revealed a unique twist on a traditional look for their new home kit for the 2022 Betfred Super League season, with the shirt featuring a traditional blue and amber design but with Rob Burrow’s famous number 7 interwoven into the amber band across the chest.

Since Leeds Rhinos legend Rob Burrow MBE was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in December 2019, his famous squad number has been the catalyst for unprecedented awareness and fundraising for those battling against the life limiting disease. Now the Rhinos players will have a constant reminder of that inspiration across their chest when they take the field throughout 2022.

Rhinos official technical kit partners OXEN have continued their support of Rob Burrow that began last season with the seven stripes running throughout the current home shirt. In addition throughout 2021, OXEN worked closely with the MND Association, donating over £50,000 inspired by Rob Burrow and they will continue to do so next year through a variety of projects to be announced in the future.

The shirt features an amber collar and sleeve trim as well as the traditional Leeds irregular amber hoops on a predominantly blue shirt with white shorts and blue and amber socks. Inside the collar, is the message Spirit of the Rhinos, which features above the tunnel at Emerald Headingley as the team walk onto the pitch for each home game.

Following consultation with the club’s supporter board, and working with the team at OXEN, the Rhinos have opted to a return to the traditional blue and amber including a round collar popular with supporters. However, whilst tradition at the heart of the design, the club have launched the shirt with an eye to the future with a film featuring legend Jamie Peacock talking to rising stars Tom Holroyd, Jack Broadbent, Sam Walters, Jarrod O’Connor, Morgan Gannon and Corey Johnson about what it means to pull on the famous blue and amber jersey.

Leeds Rhinos members can be the first to own the new look shirt ahead of Friday’s massive Betfred Super League semi final at St Helens. The shirts will be available from the retail store at Emerald Headingley Stadium on Thursday evening from 6-8pm exclusively for members and general sale from Friday morning at 9am until 5pm. To ensure all sizes are available at Emerald Headingley at launch, the Merrion Centre store will take stock from the middle of next week but fans can buy now online by visiting www.leedsrhinosshop.com.

The shirt features on the front the Leeds Building Society logo as principal club partners plus Berry’s and Global alongside the Oxen logo. Southerns and SMUK feature on the sleeves with NIC being joined by ACS for the first time on the back of the shirt.

The shorts and socks feature SMUK and OXEN with Leeds Building Society also on the shorts.

The adult shirts are sized S to 6XL with Ladies shirts available in sizes 8-20, both priced £49.99. Junior shirts are £39.99 in sizes age 6 to 14 with new toddler kits, age 0 to 4, priced at £39.99. Replica shorts are available for adults in sizes S to 3XL priced £25.99 and juniors in sizes 6 years to 14 priced £22.99.

Commenting on the 2022 home shirt, Leeds Rhinos star Jack Broadbent said, “It will be a privilege and honour to put on the famous blue and amber hoops that are so special in our clubs history. We are fortunate as a playing group to be surrounded by legends of the club from the recent past and further back in our history and this shirt links us all. The way OXEN have incorporated the number seven in the design too makes this shirt extra special and I know it will mean a lot to the lads every time we run out in it.”
